Given the importance of ICT diffusion in the development of the financial sector, this analysis is an effort to analyze the transmission channels between the two in high-income and middle and low-income economies over 2001–2019. We have used three variables, including the ICT index, individuals using the internet, and mobile subscribers, to represent ICT and three indices, including the financial development index, financial institution index, and financial market index, to make our results reliable and robust. We utilized a GMM method for conducting the empirical analysis. Generally, our results imply that ICT diffusion positively impacts financial development in high-income economies and negatively impacts middle and low-income economies. Our findings suggest that middle- and low-income-economy policymakers should follow the footprint of the high-income economies and increase the role of ICT in the financial sector for its development. This paper examines how CEOs educational background affects the agglomeration economies–firm performance relationship based on the upper echelons theory. With a sample of Chinese software and information technology services public listed firms, it is found that CEO educational specialization helps firms to reap the benefits of agglomeration. Specifically, firms led by CEOs with science or engineering degrees benefit more from specialization externalities, while firms led by CEOs with business, economics or legal degrees enjoy more diversity externalities. With the rapid development of the economy, a large amount of financial data will be generated during the continuous growth of enterprises. However, due to the explosive growth of the financial data range index, the use of machine learning methods to mine and analyse financial data is extremely important. Among them, accurate financial risk evaluation is an effective measure to prevent and resolve corporate financial crises. In this article, we use fuzzy clustering method to establish a financial risk early warning and evaluation model. Specifically, we use fuzzy C‐mean (FCM), half‐suppressed FCM, and interval FCM clustering algorithms‐based state construction financial risk early warning and evaluation models, to give an evaluation from two aspects of corporate financial indicators and non‐financial indicators system. In order to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the fuzzy clustering algorithms used in financial data mining, we conducted experiments in financial data mining and early warning in real estate companies and ST companies. The experimental results show that the fuzzy clustering algorithms represented by the FCM clustering algorithm has achieved good results in financial data mining, and can achieve good results in financial risk analysis and financial risk early warning. Despite representing a very accurate method for assessing spatial distribution, Marcon and Puech's M has been insufficiently exploited so far, most likely because its computation relies on pairing every point of interest (i.e., firms, plants) with every other point within the area under analysis. Such a figure rapidly grows to unmanageable levels when said area is larger than a neighborhood or when every industry is taken into account. Consequently, practical applications of M have been exclusively experimental and circumscribed to very limited areas or to a handful of industries. This seems much regrettable since M provides many advantages compared to conventional measures of spatial distribution and also to alternative distance measures. In this article, we assess the reliability of using small administrative units instead of exact postal addresses for the localization of plants, in order to reduce M's computational burden. Working with a dataset that provides the location, the specific industry and the number of employees for every single plant/establishment in Italy for both manufacturing and services, we can also draw a preliminary but certainly interesting picture of Sardinia's economic geography and its development through the Great Recession toughest years between 2007 and 2012. A nonlinear crime model is generalized by introducing self- and cross-diffusion terms. The effect of diffusion on the stability of non-negative constant steady states is applied. In particular, the cross-diffusion-driven instability, called Turing instability, is analyzed by linear stability analysis, and several Turing patterns driven by the cross-diffusion are studied through numerical investigations. Spatial dynamics of logistic allocation in large urban centers has gained relevance in urban economics, public policy formulation and transport engineering. A crucial aspect of these spatial, agglomerative, and dispersive phenomena are the causal links that such processes generate or by which they are generated. This study investigates the causal relationships linked to the allocation of logistics warehouses in the context of the sub-regions of the São Paulo Metropolitan Region (SPMR) based on the theory of agglomeration economies. Two variables related to the urban distribution of goods were selected: (a) Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and (b) Cargo Theft (CT) and contrasted with the number of logistics warehouses (NW). Five regions of the SPMR were considered both for spatial descriptive analysis and for the study of causality based on the Granger methodology, adapted by Hurlin, and on the cointegration methodology and Panel Vector Error Correction Model. For SPMR, the relationships obtained demonstrate, in the short term, unidirectional causalities between GDP/NW. In the short term, the causal relationship between CT/NW for the metropolitan region was unidirectional from the amount of cargo theft to the number of warehouses. The subregions showed strong heterogeneity in causal relationships, both in the short and long term, demonstrating the complexity of the logistical allocation phenomena in the SPMR. • Cargo theft is a crucial decision factor when installing a logistic warehouse. • The demand in high-GDP regions increases the need for nearby logistics services. • The number of warehouses affects long-term economic growth. New models of agglomeration cast the urban productivity premium as the outcome of agglomeration economies, a spatial sorting of skilled entrepreneurs and greater selection effects leading to less, but more productive businesses. We provide descriptive evidence of the spatial distribution of growing early‐stage businesses in Chile that concurs with the theory. We show, first, that while business entry rates increase systematically with the size of a region, the rates of growing early‐stage businesses are not related to the levels of agglomeration. Second, we show that, on the contrary, average early‐stage business productivity, the levels of human capital and business exit rates all relate positively with agglomeration. Third, we estimate regression models that verify the expected relationships between agglomeration factors and regional growing early‐stage‐business activity. The results for Chile suggest that the disadvantages of agglomeration largely offset the benefits, and therefore there is no obvious location penalty to venturing in peripheral areas. Entrepreneurship policies in less‐developed countries should not target excessively to specific industries and regions, as they might curtail an entrepreneurial potential that is ubiquitous. Improving total factor productivity is an important driving force for achieving high-quality economic development. Based on the panel data of 256 cities in China from 2009 to 2019, this paper investigates the effect of transportation and information infrastructure on urban productivity. The results show that transportation and information infrastructure promote urban productivity, and the effect in eastern regions and megacities is more obvious. The mechanism analysis shows that transportation infrastructure enhances urban productivity by promoting economic agglomeration, and information infrastructure enhances urban productivity by promoting labor mobility, economic agglomeration, financial agglomeration and industrial agglomeration. The spatial spillover effect shows positive spatial autocorrelation of urban productivity. Transportation and information infrastructure have significant positive spatial spillover effects on urban productivity. China should continue to promote the construction of transportation infrastructure, strengthen investment in information infrastructure, and promote the joint construction, sharing, coordination and integration of transportation and information infrastructure. Despite the ongoing debate on the interaction between the informal sector and agglomeration economies in cities, little is known about whether informal agglomeration generates the wage premium in cities in developing countries. This paper provides empirical evidence on the impacts of urbanization and localization, separated from formal and informal sources, on the earnings of informal workers and how the concentration of informal workers affects the wages of formal employees in cities in Vietnam. Using data from the 2013-2020 Vietnam Labor Force Surveys, this paper shows higher wages in bigger cities. In addition to workers' skills and local non-human endowment, agglomeration generates the wage premium in cities. Nevertheless, the impacts are different between small and large cities. Our results show that while informal workers benefit from urbanization and localization in large cities, their existence is over-concentrated in small cities and crowds out the formal sector in large cities of Vietnam. Current models of early human subsistence economies suggest a focus on large mammal hunting. To evaluate this hypothesis, we examine human bone stable isotope chemistry of 24 individuals from the early Holocene sites of Wilamaya Patjxa (9.0–8.7 cal. ka) and Soro Mik'aya Patjxa (8.0–6.5 cal. ka) located at 3800 meters above sea level on the Andean Altiplano, Peru. Contrary to expectation, Bayesian mixing models based on the isotope chemistry reveal that plants dominated the diet, comprising 70–95% of the average diet. Paleoethnobotanical data further show that tubers may have been the most prominent subsistence resource. These findings update our understanding of earliest forager economies and the pathway to agricultural economies in the Andean highlands. The findings furthermore suggest that the initial subsistence economies of early human populations adapting to new landscapes may have been more plant oriented than current models suggest. In most discussions, "smart cities" are perceived as a largely positive phenomenon that improves the safety but above all the comfort of its inhabitants. The present paper constructively and critically analyses the approach of de facto unregulated development of "smart cities" with emphasis on the risks associated with this phenomenon. Examples from recent years, not only in the context of developments in Ukraine, show that modern, technological solutions, i.e. e-Government tools, can become a target or even a tool of variously motivated attackers (criminal groups, foreign powers). A "smart" city is often potentially more vulnerable than agglomerations managed more traditionally. Market-based solutions for poverty alleviation at the Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) have been discussed extensively in the literature. Most BoP producer firms are based out of remote locations and suffer from informational asymmetry and a lack of financial resources. This study looks at three BoP firms through Bartels' theory of market separation to examine whether the adoption of e-commerce helps reduce gaps between producers and consumers. The findings indicate that e-commerce has enabled firms to decrease the spatial, temporal, and informational gaps; however, the effect on the financial gap is yet to be determined. It also recognizes the importance of e-commerce adoption as an effective market-based solution for BoP firms. The findings helped develop a conceptual framework to understand the stages of e-commerce channel adoption by BoP firms. The implications of our findings for theory and practice are discussed. Maritime industry clustering has in recent years gained attention as a tool for strategic global and regional economic competitiveness policies, owing to their co-location synergies and agglomeration economies. The Nigerian maritime sector is known to have a large industry, which comprises shipping and logistics firms, shipyards, ship consultants and a suite of other firms, institutions and associations with maritime functions. However, nothing is known about the structural characteristics and environmental dynamics of this significant cluster. This article, capitalising on a critical and meta-analytic review of studies and conceptual modelling, explores for the first time the Nigerian maritime industry from a cluster perspective, underpinned by the foundational competitiveness of Nigerian microeconomic performance. It further evaluates broadly the quality of the Nigerian business environment, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for strategic foresight in decision-making. National-level studies present the development techniques and challenges of sustaining energy-rich economies, particularly those in the developing world. However, examples of the application and interpolation of these broad-scale analyses to the regional level are scarce. Conversely, methods used at national levels are often infeasible when using higher-resolution regional or local data. Ultimately, progress in developing, managing, and advancing regional wealth databases and models is significantly missing from the literature. Herein, proposed pathways and general development frameworks are presented based on the presumptive constancy of total capital stock. Processes are outlined for acquiring information (data) and developing models to serve as a basis for qualitative and quantitative analyses of sustainable development policymaking decisions. We present a discussion around the sustainable wealth of energy-rich regions, and we suggest potential workflow methods for developing regional wealth knowledge bases and regional wealth models (RWMs). Structural scaffolding opportunities are presented for the validation of RWMs using pilot studies, followed by the process of disseminating modeling outcomes. Finally, we offer recommendations and needed innovations to advance the development of RWMs. The objectives of this article are not to provide a comprehensive literature review or consider all potential perspectives but rather to identify tools and necessary enhancements to established methods for assessing and modeling regional wealth and provide an inroad for readers wishing to learn more. The increased awareness generated through this article will mobilize assistance and generate new information that will strengthen this emergent area of research to intensify regional wealth sustainability for future generations. We focus on the extent to which polycentric urban regions can substitute for the agglomeration economies provided by large cities. Building on an open‐source software tool that helps identifying polycentric developments in urban regions, we analyse the spatial structure (in terms of size, dispersion and polycentricity) of 94 regions across 34 European countries and link this to their level of total factor productivity. This study examines the performance of worldwide corporate sustainability bonds issued from 2014 to 2020. Unlike traditional bonds, the proceeds of sustainability bonds are utilised for financing projects to bring about environmental and socio‐economic benefits. We analyse the short‐term market reaction to announcements of sustainability and traditional bond issuance and document that the stock market reaction to an announcement of sustainability bonds is stronger than that for traditional bonds. We also find that multiple issuers of sustainability bonds achieve a more favourable market reaction than single issuers. Finally, we examine if environmental, social and governance (ESG) scores can positively and significantly impact the corporate performance of firms through the lens of sustainability bond issuances. We find that ESG scores are the primary performance drivers for firms, and the effect is more pronounced for firms that issue sustainability bonds. Overall, the results suggest that issuers of sustainability bonds show their commitment towards environmental and societal goals and thus benefit from favourable stock market reactions. In the context of global climate changes, the green transformation of tourism industry has become a general trend. This study constructed a comprehensive evaluation model (Super SBM-GML) to measure the tourism green productivity (TGP) and used methods including kernel density estimation, spatiotemporal transition, and quantile regression to analyze the evolutionary characteristics and driving factors of province-level TGP in China between 2009 and 2019. The results showed the following: (1) China's TGP exhibited a two-stage growth trend, maintaining steady growth before 2014 and accelerating thereafter. (2) Regarding the dynamic evolutionary characteristics, the local spatial structure of provincial TGP remains unstable, and the provinces themselves can change their relative positions relatively easily, showing certain characteristics of spatial agglomeration and dynamic interaction. (3) The spatiotemporal network pattern of provincial tourism green productivity was dominated by positive correlations, indicating that the overall collaborative dynamics between provinces were stronger than the competition. However, a certain degree of spatiotemporal competition could be found between some neighboring provinces. (4) The TGP is affected by various driving factors such as tourism economic scale, industrial structure, scientific and technological innovation and environmental regulations, but the driving intensity and direction of each factor differ significantly across the TGP developmental stages. This paper examines spatial heterogeneity in the impacts of the early days of the COVID‐19 pandemic on urban household incomes in Ethiopia and Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Combining new panel household surveys with spatial data, the fixed‐effects regression analysis for Ethiopia finds that households in large and densely populated towns were more likely to lose their labour incomes in the early phase of the pandemic and afterwards than other households. Disadvantaged groups, such as females, low‐skilled, self‐employed and poor, particularly suffered in those towns. In Kinshasa, labour income‐mobility elasticities are higher among workers—particularly female and low‐skilled workers—who live in areas that are located farther from the city core area. The between‐ and within‐city evidence from two Sub‐Saharan African countries points to the spatial heterogeneity of COVID‐19 impacts, implying the critical role of mobility and accessibility in urban agglomerations. We analyse whether regionally embedded or firm-level capabilities drive regional diversification in industrial districts, examining the relationship between relatedness and Marshallian agglomerations. We argue that regional diversification lacks an explicit mechanism to explain branching into new products, positing that the origin of regional product branching is based on firm-level heterogeneity of capabilities and diversification, which is overlooked. Using mixed methods and patent analysis (1895–2019; 3592 patents and utility models), product diversification in the Toy Valley district in Alicante (Spain) is analysed, showing that firm-level related diversification with extensive local search explains the mechanism of the regional relatedness diversification. This study aimed to empirically analyse the relationship between technological intensity profile and local socio‐economic development, using the theories of path dependence and microregional agglomeration economies. We applied the technique of linear hierarchical modelling with data from 645 municipalities in Brazil. Our results demonstrated that current municipal socio‐economic development could be explained by the local technological path itself but even more so by the technological intensity of the microregion. Do creative industries have positive spillovers for the local economy in middle-income countries? While in high-income countries several studies have shown that creative industries are highly innovative and productive, positively impacting the local economy, the evidence is scarce for middle-income countries. Using employment data, we studied the agglomeration patterns of creative industries in Colombia between 2008 and 2017. We found a positive relationship between creative industries' agglomeration and employment in non-creative services industries. However, using a shift–share instrumental variable approach, we found no significant causality of an increase in creative industries' employment on employment growth in other industries. The rise of globally fragmented production since the 1980s encouraged economic regions to specialise in narrow slices of the value chain, making the benefits from local agglomeration no longer certain. Nonetheless, locally integrated production districts continue to thrive. Locally integrated industrial districts have proven sustainable in times of both increasing and decreasing fragmentation of production. Drawing upon insights from three schools – the Markusian logic of multiple district models, strategic coupling and the production of semi-public goods – this article uses a two-staged case-study design to explore the conditions under which locally integrated production districts continue to thrive in the global economy. The optimization of a tourism economic network is critical in the promotion of the high-quality development of a regional tourism economy. In order to explore the spatial network structure of the tourism economy of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration and its influencing factors, this study used a modified gravity model and social network analysis methods for evaluation and analysis. The results show the following: (1) the spatial network of the tourism economy in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration in 2016–2021 was characterized by significant non-equilibrium; however, that trend has weakened, and the tourism connections are now stronger in economically developed regions. (2) The density of the network structure was slightly strengthened. The structure of the tourism economy network shows an obvious core–periphery distribution pattern. The external radiation of the center city was enhanced, and the core area of the network expanded. (3) The concept of the "small world" is characterized by a significant evolution from five major associations to four major associations during the study period. (4) The quadratic assignment method (QAP) of regression analysis showed that tourism service reception capacity, tourism information flow, tourism resource endowments and transportation convenience make a significant contribution to the formation of the spatial network of inter-city tourism economic connections. The results of this study can provide a theoretical basis for the optimization of the tourism economic network of urban agglomerations and the scientific decision-making underpinning tourism economic cooperation. We carried out atomic-scale observations of Mg-ion-implanted GaN by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atom probe tomography (APT) to clarify the crystallographic structures of extended defects and Mg agglomerations that form during post-implantation annealing. The complementary TEM and APT analyses have shown that Mg atoms agglomerate at dislocations that bound extended defects. The concentration of Mg is higher at the dislocations with a larger Burgers vector. This indicates that Mg agglomeration is caused by the pressure at the dislocations. Mg concentration in highly Mg-rich regions is 1 at. %, which exceeds the solubility limit of Mg in GaN. We investigated isothermal and isochronal evolution of the defects by TEM, cathodoluminescence analysis, and positron annihilation spectroscopy. The results indicated that the intensity of donor–acceptor pair emission increases with the annealing temperature and duration and reaches a maximum after elimination of the extended defects with highly Mg-rich regions. These results strongly suggest that such extended defects reduce the acceptor formation and that they as well as the previously reported compensating centers, such as N-related vacancies, can inhibit the formation of p-type GaN. Recently, Finnish forest industries shifted from sectoral collective bargaining to firm‐level bargaining, and the IT services industry shifted to a hybrid of sector‐ and firm‐level bargaining. Using administrative data on monthly wages and the synthetic difference‐in‐differences method, I study the causal effects of collective bargaining decentralization on the level and dispersion of wages. Despite the substantial change in the level of collective bargaining, I generally find muted effects on the level and dispersion of wages. I find positive and economically and statistically significant effects on wage levels and within‐firm wage dispersion only for blue‐collar workers in the paper industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study simulates how the disruption of imports from various regions affects the total production of the importer economy. We particularly incorporate the propagation of the economic effect through domestic supply chains using data on more than one million firms and four million supply chain ties in Japan. Our findings are summarized as follows. First, the negative effect of the disruption of intermediate imports grows exponentially as its duration and strength increase due to downstream propagation. Second, the propagation of the economic effect is substantially affected by the network topology of importers, such as the number of importers (affected nodes) and their degree of upstreamness in supply chains, whereas the effect of their degree centrality is heterogeneous depending on their degree of upstreamness. Finally, the negative effect of import disruption can be mitigated by the reorganization of domestic supply chains, even when conducted only among network neighbors. Co2Fe2O4 NPs were made using the sol‐gel ignition technique employing citric acid (C6H8O7.6H2O) as a reducing agent to oxidizing agent with a ratio of 1 : 3. A thorough study of the effects of divalent Zn2+ and trivalent Y3+ ion on their structural, Infra‐red, morphological, magnetic, DC‐electrical, optical, and photocatalytic activity. All of the samples have crystallized to a cubic spinel structure with a single phase space group Fd3m, according to the analysis of the XRD pattern consisting of the intense reflections (220), (311) (222), (400), (422), (511), (440), (533), and (444). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) suggested the particle size range of ~27 nm; and demonstrates the agglomerations on the tip of MNPs, which are ideal for increasing surface area, and infrared study verifies the spinel structure. With a decrease in the hysteresis loop for the Zn−Y ligand, the magnetic hysteresis loops demonstrate a ferrimagnetic character. With Zn−Y, magnetic characteristics are noticeably affected; saturation magnetization (Ms) 70.9133 to 59.2148 emu/g; and coercivity (Hc) 1900.30 to 193.96 Oe both exhibit a decrease. The DC‐electrical resistivity image reveals the CFMNPs′ semiconducting nature and the optical energy bandgap demonstrates a decrease from their original state. Combustible dust may result in a catastrophic dust explosion with much larger accident consequences than gas explosions. In this study, porous materials are explored as a promising solution for mitigating explosions. This study focussed on the investigation of aluminium powder explosion in the influence of ceramic foam, with and without coating with non-precious nickel nanopowders. The microscopic properties and structural characteristics of the ceramic foam were analyzed using X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, and scanning electron microscopy. The findings revealed that the nickel-coated ceramic foams are non-uniform and almost spherical in shape, with obvious agglomerations of metallic-silica present on the strut structure. Compared to non-coated ceramic, it can be said that nickel-coated ceramic foams demonstrate a significant reduction in maximum overpressure by approximately 10%. This suggests that the interconnected micro-network structure of the nickel-ceramic walls aids in quenching the flame of the aluminium dust explosion and hence, suppressing the overpressure. The benefits derived from the spatial concentration of economic units, resulting from the close positioning of firms, may stem from economies of scale, a technical labor pool, low transportation and communication costs, and technology transfers. However, for this concentration to be effectively evaluated and regional policies to be developed efficiently for economic growth and development, spatial concentration measurements need to be consistent. At this point, attention is drawn to the modifiable areal unit problem (MAUP), a problem encountered in spatial analysis arising from the use of aggregated data and administrative boundaries, which impacts spatial analysis results. This study outlines the MAUP issue in the literature, emphasizes proposed solutions, and evaluates the impact of MAUP on measurements of the spatial concentration of economic activities. In a general assessment, it can be concluded that an unrestricted spatial structure and the use of personalized spatial data are crucial for mitigating MAUP effects. Additionally, in studies related to the spatial concentration of economic activities, approaches utilizing cluster-based indicators tend to neglect MAUP, while distance-based approaches are noted to minimize MAUP effects from various perspectives. Making the connection between the function and structure of networked systems is one of the fundamental issues in complex systems and network science. Urban traffic flows are related to various problems in cities and can be represented as a network of local traffic flows. To identify an empirical relation between the function and network structure of urban traffic flows, we construct a time-varying traffic flow network of a megacity, Seoul, and analyze its global efficiency with a percolation-based approach. Comparing the real-world traffic flow network with its corresponding null-model network having a randomized structure, we show that the real-world network is less efficient than its null-model network during rush hour, yet more efficient during non-rush hour. We observe that in the real-world network, links with the highest betweenness tend to have lower quality during rush hour compared to links with lower betweenness, but higher quality during non-rush hour. Since the top betweenness links tend to be the bridges that connect the network together, their congestion has a stronger impact on the network's global efficiency. As public and private institutions recognize the role of space exploration as a catalyst for economic growth, various areas of innovation are expected to emerge as drivers of the space economy. These include space transportation, in-space manufacturing, bioproduction, in-space agriculture, nuclear launch, and propulsion systems, as well as satellite services and their maintenance. However, the current nature of space as an open-access resource and global commons presents a systemic risk for exuberant competition for space goods and services, which may result in a “tragedy of the commons” dilemma. In the race among countries to capture the value of space exploration, NASA, American research universities, and private companies can avoid any coordination failures by collaborating in a public–private research and development partnership (PPRDP) structure. We present such a structure founded upon the principles of polycentric autonomous governance, which incorporate a decentralized autonomous organization framework and specialized research clusters. By advancing an alignment of incentives among the specified participatory members, PPRDPs can play a pivotal role in stimulating open-source research by creating positive knowledge spillover effects and agglomeration externalities as well as embracing the nonlinear decomposition paradigm that may blur the distinction between basic and applied research. Taking Sanya City as a case, based on POI data of six types of tourism and leisure forms, comprehensive use of spatial analysis technologies such as the nearest distance index, nuclear density estimation, multispatial clustering and geographical detectors to deeply measure and explore the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of Sanya tourism and leisure forms and their formation mechanism. The results show: (1)The overall number and characteristic spatial scale rise sharply, and the distribution pattern is "polar core-axis-surface domain"; mainly gather Sanya bay resort and spread the surrounding coastal area, and the agglomeration degree increases with the increase of spatial scale. (2) All kinds of tourism and leisure formats space agglomeration characteristics, including shopping, accommodation, catering industry and overall agglomeration characteristics have highly consistent, all kinds of formats agglomeration distribution characteristics are significantly different and scale dependence is obvious, the tourist attractions formats concentration degree with increasing time distance, the rest of the formats all increase after decrease. (3) The formation of Sanya tourism and leisure form space pattern is determined by the policy guidance of urban development orientation, that is, in the tourism and leisure demand upgrading and upgrading of urban development, from the economic level, population characteristics, traffic conditions and resource endowment affect the evolution of tourism and leisure business space pattern. The Yellow River Basin is an important energy base and economic belt in China, but its water resources are scarce, its ecology is fragile, and the task of achieving the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality is arduous. Carbon compensation potential can also be used to study the path to achieving carbon neutrality, which can clarify the potential of one region's carbon sink surplus to be compensated to the other areas. Still, there needs to be more research on the carbon compensation potential of the Yellow River Basin. Therefore, this study calculated the carbon compensation potential using the β convergence test and parameter comparison method. With the help of spatial measurement tools such as GIS, GeoDa, Stata, and social network analysis methods, the spatiotemporal pattern and network structure of the carbon compensation potential in the Yellow River Basin were studied from the perspective of urban agglomeration. The results demonstrate the following: (1) The overall carbon compensation rate of the YRB showed a downward trend from 2005 to 2019, falling by 0.94, and the specific pattern was "high in the northwest and low in the southeast". The spatial distribution is roughly spread along the east–west axis, and the distribution axis and the center of gravity keep shifting to the northwest. It also showed a weak divergence and a bifurcation trend. (2) The carbon compensation rate in the YRB passed the spatial correlation and β convergence tests, demonstrating the existence of spatial correlation and a "catch-up effect" among cities. (3) The overall distribution pattern of the carbon compensation potential in the YRB is a "low in the west and high in the east" pattern, and its value increased by 8.86% during the sampled period. (4) The network correlation of carbon compensation potential in the YRB has been significantly enhanced, with the downstream region being more connected than the upstream region. (5) The Shandong Peninsula Urban Agglomeration has the largest network center, followed by the Central Plains Urban Agglomeration, and the Ningxia along the Yellow River Urban Agglomeration has the fewest linked conduction paths. Innovation in the economy is closely tied to energy development, encompassing the exploration of new energy sources, increased energy production efficiency, and the integration of diverse energy sources for safe and effective supply to industries and households. Outdated energy infrastructure disrupts electricity continuity and hampers economic innovation. Power interruptions lead to higher SAIDI and SAIFI reliability indices. Quality and reliability requirements have sparked interest in enclosed energy devices. Vacuum technology has been pivotal in electrical switchgear insulation and arc-quenching for over four decades. However, the lack of real-time pressure monitoring systems for vacuum equipment, especially enclosed disconnectors, limits their use as isolation connectors. Potential insulation failure poses risks to power line maintenance teams and can lead to unplanned shutdowns, further compromising energy supply quality. This article explores an innovative pressure monitoring system for vacuum interrupters, utilizing fiber optic Bragg grids as a measuring sensor, enabling pressure measurement within the vacuum chamber ranging from 2 × 101 Pa to 5 × 105 Pa. The relationship between urban spatial structure, economic activities, and the environment is complex and interdependent, yet there is a paucity of literature that examines green innovation from a macro perspective of the urban development mode. To fill this gap, this study employs panel data from 268 Chinese cities between 2008 and 2018 to investigate how a city's capacity for green innovation is influenced by its urban spatial structure, specifically in terms of urban compactness. Our results demonstrate a significant inverted U-shaped relationship between the compactness of urban spatial structure and green innovation, which remains robust even when using instrumental variable estimation. We find that an increase in urban compactness promotes green innovation when the compactness index value is less than 4.49 (3.74–4.10 with instrumental variable estimate). However, beyond this threshold, agglomeration diseconomies begin to outweigh agglomeration economies, and a decentralized growth pattern becomes more conducive to green innovation. These findings suggest that indiscriminate deployment of urban polycentric development plans may hinder a city's green innovation capacity. With the growth of urban population, the importance of urban environmental protection becomes more prominent. Therefore, should we stick with the compact urban development paradigm or transition to polycentric development to achieve sustainable urban growth? Using data from 238 Chinese cities from 2008 to 2018, we discover that adopting a compact spatial structure is more conducive to green innovation when the city population concentration has not yet reached a critical value, and that the latter structure is more effective when cities are overcrowded. Furthermore, we underline that for cities with difficult-to-extend metropolitan limits and excessive agglomeration, increasing institutional regulation might minimize the detrimental consequences of excessive agglomeration on city sustainability. In 2021, Act LXXVIII of 1997 on the Development and Protection of the Built Environment redefined the types of plans used in settlement development and planning. The Act introduced the so-called "settlement plan" as a comprehensive plan type that integrated both the settlement development strategy and the settlement regulation plan. Government Decree No. 419/2021. (VII. 15.) on the content, and the orders of preparation and approval of the settlement plans, and some specific legal institutions of settlement regulation declares which settlements are required to prepare a detailed settlement plan, and which settlements are allowed to prepare a "simplified" settlement plan. The legal provision considers a population threshold of 5,000 inhabitants to classify settlements into two groups, indirectly suggesting that settlements over 5,000 inhabitants have greater potential for development than smaller ones. However, this study questions the relevance of that population threshold and assumes that a settlement's development potential is rather impacted by its legal status and geographical position. Therefore, this study compares the development volume of 27 large villages and villages over 5,000 inhabitants with 27 towns having less than 5,000 inhabitants based on the number and total amount of EU-funded projects they implemented between 2004 and 2022. The author draws the conclusion that towns, primarily due to their complex institution systems, implemented 1.62 times more development projects from about 2.9 more funding than large villages and villages with higher population. However, villages that are located in the agglomeration of a large city and have good transportation connections were also successful in acquiring EU funding, primarily due to the suburbanization of economic functions. This paper provides evidence about location and colocation patterns of manufacturing entrepreneurship and spatial scope of agglomeration economies in the context of a developing country. Using microgeographic data for all Brazilian manufacturing activities and distance‐based measures, we find clear patterns of colocalization between entrants and existing establishments, and that these patterns occur mainly at short distances. For activities presenting colocalization between entrants and existing establishments, our results also indicate that a greater number of incumbent establishments in a given location positively affects the number of entrant establishments that decide to locate there, an effect that attenuates rapidly with distance (generally disappearing after 5 km). This pattern of attenuation is robust to both the inclusion of a comprehensive set of controls for observable and unobservable local characteristics and the use of instrumental variables to address remaining endogeneity concerns. Through quantitative and qualitative analysis, this report conducts a thorough evaluation of the literature on the present progress in research on and the performance of net-zero-carbon cities (NZCCs). The quantitative analysis identifies ten major areas at this stage, and this analysis is followed by a systematic review of the dynamics and cutting-edge issues of research in the hot literature in this area. The systematic review reveals that the key points of NZCC transformation at this stage are research on zero-carbon buildings, urban paradigms, policies, economics, and renewable energy. Finally, based on the results of the previous analysis, to build the theoretical framework of NZCCs and combined with the sustainable development goals, future research directions are proposed, such as urban infrastructure transformation and low-carbon transportation, policy support and system reform, and digital transformation as well as coupling and balancing the relationships of various elements. In addition, cities need to develop evaluation indicators based on specific developments, and policy adaptability and flexibility are crucial for promoting cities' efforts to achieve zero emissions. The current study provides targeted theoretical references and assistance for future policymakers and researchers, as well as advances and trends in the field of net zero carbon and associated research material from an urban viewpoint. Green innovation is both eco-friendly and innovation-driven. It is important to clarify the spatio-temporal pattern and the influencing factors of green innovation for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Based on the panel data of 60 cities at prefecture level and above in the Yellow River Basin from 2005 to 2019, this study analyzed the spatio-temporal evolution characteristics and influencing factors of green innovation in the Yellow River Basin by using kernel density estimation, social network analysis and spatial Durbin model from the perspective of "cluster-network". The results show that: (1) The growth rate of green innovation in the Yellow River Basin slows down, the upper and middle cities of the Yellow River Basin catch up, and the gap between cities narrows gradually, with the characteristics of dynamic agglomeration. (2) The spatial agglomeration pattern of green innovation shows a gradual development trend from east to west. The level of green innovation in Shandong peninsula urban agglomeration and Central Henan urban agglomeration make an overall rise, agglomerating in patches, while development pattern of the other urban agglomerations form a point-like jumping up, which is "core-periphery" characteristics. (3) The density of green innovation cooperation network is low and highly unbalanced, forming a "pyramid" with Shandong Peninsula urban agglomeration, Zhengzhou, Xi' an and Yinchuan as a quadrilateral backbone. (4) Integrating into green innovation cooperation network has a significant and steady promoting effect on the improvement of green innovation level. There is an inverted U-shaped relationship between environmental regulation intensity and green innovation. The improvement of human capital level, economic development level and transportation network development level is conducive to green innovation, while the centrality, environmental regulation, human capital and economic development level show a positive spatial spillover effect. This paper contributes to understanding the potential for localised knowledge creation that can be generated by multinational enterprise (MNE) entry into cities in the global South from both the MNE and the local economy's perspectives. It presents a qualitative analysis of the activities of the MNE subsidiaries in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in an emerging investment hub in Medellín, Colombia. The analysis differentiates between the MNEs' local strategies to explore distinct configurations of MNE–local economy relations and their potential for unilateral or mutually beneficial knowledge creation. The findings suggest that the synergy between the MNE strategies and the evolving knowledge environment in the local economy increases the potential of the MNEs' activities for interactive and mutually beneficial knowledge and capability creation with other local stakeholders. In Medellín, these effects predominantly concerned the market-seeking MNEs, not those seeking strategic assets, as expected by evidence in the literature. They also revealed how the specific MNE strategies tended to use and influence the creation of local knowledge resources, which helps shape policies that indiscriminately aim to attract all kinds of knowledge-intensive MNE activities to emerging investment hubs. Real estate in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (also known as the Greater Bay Area, GBA) - a good representation of China's advanced and developed urban agglomeration - has received considerable attention from the international community in recent years. However, the real estate market has been under extraordinary stress due to the expansion of COVID-19 in China, the strain on people's livelihoods brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, and the Chinese government's series of epidemic preventive initiatives. This study used a combination of qualitative and quantitative techniques, making use of interviews and questionnaires as instruments. It examined China's GBA real estate market as the pandemic looms. The primary goals are to demonstrate the current state of the GBA's real estate industry, pinpoint the factors holding back its growth, and estimate when the market might finally experience a breakthrough. Our findings suggested that the impact of COVID-19 on the GBA real estate sector in China is evident, but that it still has a bright future despite the negative externalities. This is because the city has a large population, high purchasing power, and is close to some of the most developed areas in southern China. This study establishes a baseline for studying the impact of China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative on the GBA real estate market in the future. Cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&As) have grown rapidly in recent years and are a major part of foreign direct investment (FDI). However, M&A distribution is highly skewed, with most of the activity concentrated in certain countries and even in certain cities. The fact that only a handful of cities account for most M&As raises a research question as to what city attributes attract foreign investment. Unlike many previous studies that have relied on a gravity model approach using the bilateral volume of FDI, this study examines the determinants of cross-border M&As by applying an FDI gravity model to inter-city investment flows. The results based on panel data of M&A flow across 44 major cities in the world from 2010 to 2017, reveal that the gravity model fits well for even the inter-city data, and show that besides the basic attributes used in conventional gravity models, such as market size and distance between origin city and destination city, and urban-specific attributes such as the agglomeration of the world's top-ranked firms and international accessibility are positively associated with cross-border inward M&As. This paper aims to analyze and explain how urban centrality influences tourism development in a city. Based on the panel data of 295 prefecture-level cities in China from 2005 to 2018, the paper develops explanatory mechanisms and discusses the influence theoretically and empirically. To advance the analysis, this paper constructs a new index for urban centrality. Our empirical findings are as follows: (1) urban centrality promotes tourism income significantly. (2) Mechanism analysis illustrates that urban centrality fosters tourism through the agglomeration and industrial structure effects. A large body of empirical literature considers the productive advantages of cities, or "agglomeration economies." We present a meta‐analysis of this literature that draws on 6684 agglomeration elasticities from 294 studies spanning 54 countries and six decades. We find that elasticities are likely to lie in the range 0.015–0.039 and, like earlier reviews, that the controls enabled by detailed data are associated with smaller estimates. We make five main contributions: First, we find evidence that publication selection imparts a positive bias to the literature; second, we adopt novel methods that tend to yield more precise parameter estimates than conventional approaches; third, unlike earlier reviews, we do not find large differences between most countries nor an association with national income; fourth, we report new associations, for example between elasticities and the spatial scope of agglomeration, which may reflect underlying microeconomic channels; and fifth, we find evidence that elasticities for manufacturing sectors have fallen in recent decades, possibly due to lower freight costs and stricter environmental regulations. In the process of agricultural development in arid and semi-arid areas, the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation can be affected to different degrees, but research on its driving factors is lacking. Consequently, this paper focuses on the Weiku Oasis in Xinjiang as its research area, in which the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation is estimated with the chemical equation of a photochemical reaction, using methods such as linear system models and Geodetector to analyze the relationship between cropland expansion characteristics and the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation from 1990 to 2020. The influence of land-use changes on the space differentiation of carbon fixation was elucidated through a time series relationship, and the synergistic effects of nine influencing factors on the carbon fixation capacity during the process of vegetation changes were discussed. The results were as follows: (1) In the process of agricultural development, the proportions of cultivated land area and spatial agglomeration had significant negative correlations with carbon sequestration, and the significance was rising, but the effect of cultivated land area proportion was more significant. (2) Through temporal sequential cooperativity analysis, when other land-use types were converted into cultivated land, the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation suddenly and significantly decreased in the initial year of the transformation, but the effect of cultivated land reclamation on the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation did not have a significant time lag. Moreover, after a certain period of time, cultivated land can gradually recover part of its lost carbon fixation capacity. (3) Among the nine driving factors, potential evapotranspiration is the most prominent in explaining the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation. This single-factor pairwise interaction presents the relationship between bivariate enhancement and nonlinear enhancement. When terrain factors interact with other factors, the enhancement effect of the influence on the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation has an obvious promotion effect. However, the change in the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation is more significantly influenced by potential evapotranspiration and the interaction between the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and other factors. This research is helpful to understanding the basic theories related to the change in the carbon fixation capacity of vegetation during the process of agricultural development in arid and semi-arid areas, as well as providing theoretical reference for ecological environment construction and sustainable development. This paper focuses on creative industries and the role played by the existing spatial distribution and agglomeration economies of these activities in relation to their entry decisions. We rely on employment and firm-level data in the creative industries (provided by INSEE) and compare the location of new establishments in the creative and non-creative industries between 2009 and 2013 in French departments (NUTS 3 regions). We use count data models and spatial econometrics to show that location determinants are rather similar in creative and non-creative industries and that specialisation in creative industries positively influences the entry of all other industries. The role of urban forests in carbon capture and sequestration has been reviewed in a global context. An interpretive analysis was carried out using normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and allometric relationships in 5 cities of India, viz. Navi Mumbai, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Leh and Delhi, to evaluate the economic importance of urban green spaces in sequestrating carbon emissions and mitigating severe climatic impacts. NDVI maps were prepared using data from Landsat 7 and Landsat 8 satellite sensors. Bengaluru showed highest carbon sequestration (141.83 MT), and carbon sequestration in the city of Leh was comparatively very low (1.51 MT) as it is a cold desert with a very low urban forest cover. The valuation of urban green spaces in the selected cities was done by using market price method (MPM), value transfer method (VTM), and social cost of carbon method (SCC). The carbon sequestration valuation ranged from 55 to 5164 million$ for estimation using MPM and from 69.69 to 6537.15 million $ for SCC, whereas for VTM it ranged from 1575.06 to 147,736.94 million INR. The SCC approach used for valuation showed the highest cost of CO2 sequestered, while the MPM provided with the lowest value for all the five cities. Highest carbon sequestration and valuation values were observed in Bengaluru followed by Delhi. This study also points to the need of developing region-specific allometric relationships for better accuracy in quantifying carbon sequestration potential and associated economic value of urban forests.
